Google advocates gay marriage, opposes Proposition 8

by Horatius on October 12, 2008

Unhappy with Google’s public position in favor of gay marriage?  Feeling like you’d rather not give money to Google for its fight against traditional marriage?  You can take money away from Google, today, by using other great search engines instead of Google.

Google earns advertising dollars in a variety of ways, most of which are directly tied to consumer searches.  Stop searching on Google and Google doesn’t get paid.  Here are some great alternatives for finding stuff on the internet: ChaCha, KartOO – my personal favorite, Quintura – really cool and Dogpile.  You can read about other specialized engines here.

Be sure to send Google a goodbye message as you start to use other services.

So, does anyone know if Google makes money off of blogspot? They own it. But, do they make money because I have a blog there? I dont pay for the service. I don’t have any ads on my blog. Does it still somehow increase their revenue?

Survey on Gay Marriage: http://surveyg2.pollingpoint.com/vkXc5QvK4L7ggq

This is just one of many questions:
Are you in favor of an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that legally defines marriage as a union between a man and woman only?

Kari October 12, 2008 at 4:53 pm

What about an alternative to Picasa, which is owned by Google?

My understanding is that they earn their money through advertising. If you’re not paying or contacting a paying entity through their engine, you’re probably not giving them any money.

I’ve switched to KartOO for right now. There is also Quintura and many, many others.

Thank you for the link to support, Mac. I sent them an email and I’ll send that to my mailing list. The survey is apparently closed, Cosmo. Got to many hits today maybe?

Talked to a confidential source today about Google. They are located in Mountain View, on the San Francisco peninsula. The folks there are all in the 20-30 age range, and into the Bay Area culture. We’ll look for someone in Oklahoma or Idaho.
Thanks for the address, Mac, so we can bid them adieu. http://www.google.com/support/investors/

Thank you, Kurt, for posting this.

Hey, if I log onto a gmail address through kartOO, does Google have to pay kartOO?

Google is a beast. They own the bulk of Facebook too! Is that right?

Cosmo- That article was an April Fool’s joke. Google is really trying to open up a social network war, so to speak ,with Facebook right now.

Rather confusing of Infoworld to post as news an April Fool’s joke, but that’s what it is. In reality I don’t believe Google owns any of Facebook.

Cosmo October 13, 2008 at 8:18 pm

What about this article? It appears that back in October of ’07 there were talks of Google and Microsoft both buying a share of Facebook.

It was between Microsoft and Google. Each was vying for a stake in the company. In the end, Facebook chose Microsoft over Google.

“Microsoft leadership has publicly supported gay rights legislation, and the company officially opposes discrimination based on sexual orientation. ”

The January 2008 article, at the above link, makes it appear that Microsoft has its own pro-gay stand. I don’t know that they have an official stand on gay Prop. 8. I haven’t found anything on that yet. (But, I had fun reading the perverted comments from gays about Brad Pitt.)

I just checked those links out…they work. I just searched for my home town in CA, and there are a number of names that I know along with the amount they donated.

I think Kari is wack!

Google for its fight against traditional marriage?

Proposition 8 has nothing to do with any “fight against traditional marriage”. Proposition 8 is about inequality for LGBT people.

If you want to quit using Google, that’s grand: no one will miss you, bye bye. But you know it’s because you don’t want same-sex couples to marry – it’s about fighting for discrimination, not about “traditional marriage”.

The One November 2, 2008 at 6:16 pm

Alright, so did anyone invite Jesurgilsack to speak?

The last I checked Proposition 8 has nothing to do with inequality for homosexuals. The proposition is about defining marriage as between man and woman. The way God intended. You can try to rationalize it as much as you want calling it “discrimination”. Either way homosexuality is wrong and God forbids it. It will be detrimental for society if Prop 8 does not pass. End of discussion.

TradMarriage November 2, 2008 at 8:32 pm

I agree! It has nothing to do with discrimination. I think it is wrong to say that I discriminate, when you don’t even know me. I think that you just use the easy punch phrase “discrimination” because you have no other argument. Plus, if we allow gay marriage what else is next? I want to marry my dog…can I? Or my hampster…I am in love my hampster…who is to say I can’t marry my hampster? “Its wrong to say who I can marry”
